If you're looking for a GOOD read, I got just the book for you! The Millennial's Guide To Changing the World by Alison Lea Sher is a 10 out of 10 star rating from me. If you are a Millennial I highly recommend you read this book, but even if you're not, you should still read it. As a Millennial it will help you to understand everything you're going through, so is every Millennial and even if you get nothing else out of this book (which I highly doubt will happen) to know you're not alone in how you're feeling and what you're going through is amazing. As I was reading this book, I was thinking to myself, "Yup, I feel that way" about 90% of it. Alison brings to light the challenges Millennial's face financially, socially, mentally, and more. She describes how we are constantly feeling like working a 9-5 job is SO unfulfilling and how we are succumbing to society's norms and not expressing our creativity through our life given purpose. Alison uses real situations from people, just like us to explain the feelings and challenges we go through. This is all authentic and raw information. As a Millennial, this will hit home for you. If you're not a Millennial I still recommend you read this to help understand us since we are the "lost generation".
Some of my favorite quotes from the book I think are very relatable:
"Your twenties just may be the most emotionally unstable period in your development"
"Millennials are the most highly educated generation in history. We’re smart enough to see that not only is the system rigged against the average person, it’s also completely unsustainable"
"In the face of an impending apocalypse, purpose is what millennials are searching for."
"Many millennials were told that we could do anything we wanted with our lives, but we weren’t equipped with the appropriate tools and skills. As a result, we’re spending a lot of time searching for a dream that we can bring to fruition."
"I don’t know what I want to do with myself in the long term. Every time I try to pursue a stable identity, I feel like I’m surrendering my creativity and my ideals; I am reducing myself to a commodity for the machine. This isn’t my idea of life lived well. "
"We may have a hard time deciding what we want to do, though the one thing we know for certain is that we’re probably not going to stick to the same job for our entire lives."
